Welcome to the Alan Shearer Short Break Centre

Alan Shearer with guests in the gardenWe are a specialised short break facility in Newcastle upon Tyne. We offer individually tailored holiday-style short breaks for children and adults with physical and learning disabilities in a happy, stimulating and safe environment.

Facilities include ten bedrooms with colour televisions and a large communal lounge and dining area. Fully adapted bathing facilities with overhead tracking are also available. The short break centre is situated within beautiful gardens with lawned and landscaped areas and a woodland walk.

A fully trained and experienced staff team is equipped to deal with people with the most complex of needs; from high dependency and personal care requirements to people presenting extreme and challenging behaviours. The centre is regulated to accommodate both children and adults at separate times.

Our short break centre is linked to our downstairs Activity Centre and all short break guests can benefit from free use of its facilities during their stay. The Activity Centre is a specially adapted environment offering a spectrum of sensory experiences from small welcoming rooms with quiet and calming atmospheres, to our large ball pool for guests requiring more energetic pursuits.

Our planned assessment and introduction processes can be tailored to meet most people’s needs ensuring that every stay is both unique and enjoyable. The Alan Shearer Centre is used by people with disabilities from across Newcastle, the wider North East region and beyond. Referrals are accepted from social workers, healthcare professionals and independently from families. You do not have to be referred to us by a social worker to book a short break.
